Make Better Purchases With Consumer Reports Through HEPL

By Brad Howell

Looking for a new dishwasher but aren’t sure which features are necessary?  Need to replace your sweeper but are inundated by 224 choices with a wide variety of opinions from Amazon.com?  Wondering what are the best used cards under $20,000?  Still debating if a foam or innerspring mattress is your best bet?   What are the best low-priced smartphones with high-end features?  Look no further than HEPL’s website!  If you have a library card you now have access to all the reviews Consumer Reports online has available in one place!

Consumer Reports is an independent nonprofit organization that works with consumers to ensure you make educated decisions before that big purchase.   In 2018, Consumer Reports will spend more than $27 million to rate, review and test up to 8,000 products and services.  While the ability to search for reviews is the most valuable feature of Consumer Reports online, their site also includes featured articles of interest including everything from the top 5 items on deep discount in March to 6 smart-home upgrades to help sell your home.

Here’s the only catch:  if you try to access this site online it will cost you $35 per year.  However, if you visit our online database page and punch in your HEPL library card / pin number, it’s free!  So, before you throw a ton of money at an expensive necessity, do your homework for free on the Consumer Reports website.

Consumer Reports online can be accessed under the Resources and Online Databases link here.
