I Am The Messenger

I Am The Messenger

By: Markus Zusak

If you’re a fan of Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief and his wonderful style of writing, try I Am The Messenger.  It’s funny, poignant and suspenseful and that’s not easy to do.  Ed Kennedy is an average 19 year old adrift in life.  Besides Audrey, his best friend who he’s secretly in love with, he hasn’t found his passion.  The book begins with Ed and his friend Marvin accidentally stopping a bank robbery.  He becomes well known in his Australian hometown when the cards start showing up.  Playing cards with messages and addresses on them sent anonymously.  They lead him to people all over town whose lives he touches in unexpected ways.  The mystery part of this story is who is sending them and why.

This is an incredibly well written page turner of a book that I would recommend to older teens and adults
