Are you a fan of CSI? What about the TV show Scorpion? If so, than you should check out this thrilling 1st entry of the The Naturals series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Cassie is a 17-year old with an amazing talent. She can “read” people. And not just the little things like if someone is mad or sad. She can dissect, analyze and construct from the tiniest of details. Although she’s done this all her life, it never really occurred to her that this talent could lead her somewhere. That is, until the FBI came knocking on her family’s door.
In the blink of an eye, Cassie is removed from her home and placed on a team of equally gifted “naturals”. This eclectic group are part of a classified program that uses exceptional teenagers to help crack cold cases. What appears to be an exciting and cool opportunity soon becomes the realization that there’s more at risk than a few unsolved homicides. And when a new killer strikes, Cassie feels that danger looms a lot closer than she could have ever imagined.
This is a great teen book for all those cat & mouse mystery fans out there. The author does a wonderful job in keeping the reader engaged with fast-paced action, as well as producing a solid teen dynamic between all the unique characters. Its quite evident that all the members of The Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts in order to survive. I highly recommend this title, 4.5 out of 5 stars.
